THE BLACK DRAGONS
Nobly arrayed behind Conan in the last post were the Black Dragons...the Aquilonian Royal Guard. I have painted 10 mounted and 10 on foot...probably more than I should have in the army but they are nice figures and dead easy to paint
In one of the de Camp/Carter stories it mentions the Black Dragons have white surcoats, but I'm sure Howard says black. Figures by Garrison again.
These look excellent as ever. I still love the finish and the traditional look.
I think the size of your units would work well with that Neil Thomas book. At eight units a side it would grant a method of building armies too. So a Cimmerian army might be mostly warband, perhaps with a a unit of archers. The Aquilonian war machine would be a 'tank' of unstoppable steel, though might be quite slow in comparison. A lot of mileage with his rules too - just tried his ACW variant (see my own blog) and although there are a few gaps, these are easily solved with house rules. Mind you, the Ancient and Medieval book does fill a lot of the gaps that I bring up.
